The 2013 US Open Snowboarding championships featured four days of halfpipe and slopestyle compeition with over 100 of the world’s best riders—from Shaun White, Scotty Largo and Louie Vitto to some of the world’s best women in Kelly Clark and Torah Bright.

After 30 years in Vermont, Burton finally headed west—and we at Condorcam couldn’t have been more thrilled than to be filming this spectacular event right in our backyard. We ran two spans—one directly over the halfpipe competition, and the other, spanning 1200 feet, over the two largest jumps of the slopestyle course.

Friday and Saturday we were live on Universal and NBC.

It was the first time the US Open of Snowboarding had a cablecam capturing shots down the middle of the halfpipe competition, and Nico Sorensen, director of the NBC show, said “I was very happy to have condorcam in the pipe, It really added to the TV product.”

This event threw all the elements at us, from weather to long hours, and I want to thank the Condorcam crew for going the extra mile (as always) to make this such a success. Lucky McQueede my Head Rigger and Jeff Engerbretson, Cablecam Driver and all around “Mountain Man” – thanks for your dedication and hard work and doing it with a smile all week.

January 2013 found Condorcam in the mountains of British Columbia for the first stop of the Freeride World Tour, the premiere tour for the world’s elite big mountain skiers and snowboarders.  There couldn’t be a more stunning venue to begin than Revelstoke with some of the biggest vertical drops of the tour, which includes stops in Italy, France, and Switzerland.   Three feet of fresh powder only added to the excitement.
 
Condorcam was there to provide aerial downlinks for the Cineflex on the helicopter.  Vancal Cine provided beautiful Cineflex shots.  John Trapman, the cineflex operator for the shoot, said “It was great working with Condorcam.  It’s always a pleasure to work with experienced people and professional equipment.  The RF link was rock-solid all day and we were able to really show off what the Cineflex can do.”

Revelstoke Highlights





Condorcam also teched RF links for the start and finish cameras, a fun challenge on the 1,600 vertical foot face.  ”All went really smoothly,” said Adam Comey, Executive Producer for MSI.  ”When you’re in such a remote setting and everything goes well on the technical side of things, it’s an indicator to me that we have the right people and the right equipment in place to get the job done.”  
 
It was a great shoot with an awesome team of people and we’re looking forward to working with MSI and the Freeride World Tour again.
